I'm in the process of deciding how I want to go about appointing Mods to the forums.
My first thought is donations. It's going to cost me about $300 to get the site professionally hosted with VB software (like PBN). I plan to wait on that until the site gets up to about 100+ users. At that point, I think this will be going pretty slow and I won't have any other choice. Deciding via donations also lets me know who is going to really put forth the effort to keep this forum functioning and I can rely on when I'm not here/around to keep order. It's a proven fact that if you pay for something you care for it a lot more than something you got for free. I was thinking $30 would be a fair price and I'm looking to have 3-4 mods for now. That means, for those of you that can't do math, I'd still be putting up most of the cash to get this bugger up and going full steam (about $180).
This is just something that I'm batting around in my head, but I am open for other ideas if anyone has them.
Feel free to post your ideas here. Thanks!!!
-Marc

After careful reconsideration, the above idea has been nixed. I am going back to the drawing board. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Maybe a good old game of drawing straws...

I don't mind moderating. I have been moderator on a few other forums. Mainly World of Warcraft forums back when I played religiously.
I will devote some of my spare time to help you out with the forums if you need me.

You could do it the way pbn does it...
have 1-2 mods per sub forum and choose them based on their knowledge fo said forum and their helpfulness. Shows who is really here to help and promote the site rather than the ones who just come every so often.
just my 2 cents _________________ To my Killers....I will make things right- Hybrid

I have been a GM on a MMO before (Star wars Galaxies) so I have a little experience in dealing with problems. If you wanted to pick mods you could go by the amount of helpful posts someone has put down.
Like for instance, if I posted something in the help forum for guns, and the person found my post helpful to fixing their problem, they could give out a point or something to the person that helped them. Depending on how many points someone had they could become a mod with admin approval?
Or you could always just do a vote on the top 10 people that everyone finds most helpful, the top 3 of those becomeing mods. First with a nominee stage, only members with ___+ posts could nominate someone, and then an actual poll lasting ____ hours or days.
These are all just random ideas I am throwing out, but some of them have worked in the past.
